Hackers Can Drain Your Bank Account Overnight

  • The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) received over 1.3 million complaints in 2009 with 54% of those complaints related to fraud and 21% related to identity theft, making it the number one complaint category;
  • Victims of fraud reported losses of $1.7 billion in 2009, at an mean monetary loss of $399;

Other significant categories of identity theft reported by victims were bank fraud (10%) and loan fraud (4%).
